Meet Heather & Jen

Doula-Training-Cocoon- (70)Pleased to “meet” you! We are mothers & wives first & foremost, and between us serve as dedicated nurses, nurse midwives, certified childbirth educators, IBCLC’s and doulas with a passion for empowering parents during their childbearing year. Our personal experiences with the births of our children led us to join the local birth community in 2003. There, we met each other and began a shared effort to provide doula services and childbirth education to underserved rural populations in the mountain communities of Colorado. Today, we offer our services and expertise to all women and families with the hope of providing a positive and beautiful childbirth experience for all parents seeking a doula in Denver.

Our passion for helping families in the childbearing year drives us to expand our horizons to offer the most up-to-date, evidence-based information and emotional support. We each have 10+ years experience in the birthing community in various roles: as registered nurses (in both hospitals and birth centers), educators, students of midwifery, midwives, IBCLC’s, and doulas. We have both served on the board of the non-profit Colorado Doulas Association, been involved in multiple task forces, grant funded projects, and professional development.

And while we are passionate about our profession, we are even more proud of our families! We have personal experience with unmedicated birth, medicated birth, epidurals, home birth, hospital birth, cesarean, and water birth. We have been working as doulas in Denver for over ten years and have an intimate knowledge of the local birthing community including hospitals, birth centers, and home birth midwives.

Learn more about Heather.

Heather Scott’s passion to support families during the childbearing years began, like many women, with her own experiences giving birth. It was during her first pregnancy and birth in 1998 that she gained the knowledge that birth is a very normal part of life and not something to fear. Heather began to seek a way to share this understanding with other birthing women. Heather went on to train and certify as both a childbirth educator and a doula in 2003 and 2004 respectively through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association. It was during her training as a doula in 2004 that she met her future friend and business partner, Jen Matera. Heather worked for 8 years as an RN at Mountain Midwifery freestanding birth center in Englewood, CO.

Heather graduated in 2016 from the Frontier Nursing University MSN program and is a Certified Nurse Midwife currently working with the Rose midwifery group. Heather and her family live in the foothills southwest of Denver. When not attending a birth or teaching a childbirth class Heather can be found spending as much quality time as possible with her husband, four children and usually a furry friend or two in the background! It is with great enthusiasm that Heather seeks to provide families with quality support through Cocoon Birth whose mission is to nurture, empower and honor your family.
